INSTRUCTOR & FOUNDER OF MHI: JASON SPIETH
Jason is a BWFA (Brotherhood of Working Farriers Association) Certified Master Farrier with an Associates in Farrier Science through FNRC (Farrier's National Research Center).
Jason has been in the horse industry since a young child as his parents and older brothers were involved in thoroughbred racing and barrel racing. His passion in horseshoeing came about when he hired a farrier to come out and shoe his horse for her upcoming barrel race at the American Quarter Horse Congress. The shoer (self-taught) made a costly decision to drastically change her angles. This decision not only lamed her up for that race but forced her into early retirement from the damage.
After this devastating event, Jason decided he needed to learn more about trimming/shoeing horses so he would understand what was happening when the farrier was out. This lead him to finding Red's School in 1996 at which he decided to become a professional farrier. As his career grew, Jason studied corrective shoeing and has had many successful rehabilitations. He has shod race winners, barrel futurity competitors, western pleasure champions, Paint Horse World Top 10 Halter horses, and Quarter Horse Congress finalists.
Jason has had many students apprentice under him who have gone on to shoe their own horses, and many who have chosen to make horseshoeing their career. He has seen the need for horseshoers not only in the immediate area, but all over the country.
The equine industry is growing and with that grows the need for not just a farrier, but a well-trained, BWFA Certified Farrier with a large support system to help them continue to learn in order to give our equines the best possible hoof support that we can. We always say "no hoof, no horse" and that is the truth. The horses hooves must be well taken care of to maintain good alignment of their bone structure.
Outside of instructing at MHI, Jason continues to be involved in the horse industry with his wife, Sianna, and his daughter, Payton. They are involved in local 4H clubs, speed events, and also give riding lessons.
